Enforcement squads will now frequent mine areas while a coordination committee will keep a watch on extraction and transportation of minerals.

MUMBAI: A major environmental disaster is brewing along the northern coastline of Maharashtra, which, according to a recent study done by the Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) for the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), has higher levels of pollution than any other coastline in India.

The government has postponed the Environmental Public Hearing by the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) in view of the proposed widening of NH-17 until the exact details of the project are made available.

In another four years, coal dust pollution from the manually handled Berths No 10 and 11 located towards Vasco city could be a thing of past, as Berth No 10 will make way for logistic cargo handling and while Berth No 11 will be developed into a fully mechanised manner as per the Goa State Pollution Control Board norms.

RTI applications filed in the Odisha Pollution Control Board (OPCB) and State Forest Department have disclosed that illegal mining worth above 2,000 crore is being carried out by Essel Mining & Industries Ltd of the Aditya Birla Group.

Rajmahal, June 29: Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board and Sahebganj district administration are at loggerheads over the closure of five polluting China clay mines situated on the banks of the Ganga in Rajmahal.

The ministry of environment and forests (MoEF), has submitted an affidavit to the Bombay high court stating that it does not support the setting up of private helipads in Mumbai.

The Maharashtra government had plans to give green signal to kick-start the construction of the 12 private helipads.
