African, Asian and North American law enforcement officers team up to apprehend wildlife criminals

The CITES Secretary-General, Mr John E. Scanlon, welcomed the excellent results achieved by law enforcement officers from 28 countries during Operation COBRA II, a month-long global operation to combat illegal wildlife trade, which ended on 27 January 2014. Operation COBRA II was organized by the Lusaka Agreement Task Force (LATF), China, the United States of America, South Africa, the Association of South East Asia Nations Wildlife Enforcement Network (ASEAN-WEN) and the South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network (SAWEN), and was coordinated by International Coordination Teams located in Nairobi and Bangkok.

UP might see a rise in the number of tigers

Tiger count at Kishenpur might be up from the last census conducted in 2011.

Analysis of camera trappings suggest an increase in the number of tigers in 204 sq km of the sanctuary that forms dudhwa's core zone. Sensor-enabled cameras were installed at 65 locations of the sanctuary to click tigers.

Tiger count begins at Ranthambore

A deadly virus is stalking the big cats, but the State Forest department is yet to wake up to the warning.

Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) has reportedly affected tigers in the northern and eastern parts of the country, killing two cubs in Patna Zoo, a couple of months ago.

Tigress shifted to Panna Tiger Reserve from Pench

SEONI (MP): A tigress has been shifted from Pench Tiger Reserve to the Panna Tiger Reserve here where the number of the female big cats has been dwindling.

"After a lot of efforts, a three-and-half year old tigress was caught from Kurai range by the trained wildlife experts and shifted last evening to the Panna Tiger Reserve," the reserve's director Alok Kumar told reporters here on Wednesday.
