New Delhi: The river Ganga may soon get a much-needed clean-up act at the section where it crosses the pilgrimage city of Varanasi, with a little help from the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh state government.
LUCKNOW: In a fresh impetus to bettering urban infrastructure in major cities of the state, the government of India has named Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Kanpur, Meerut, Allahabad and Mathura as mission cities under the urban infrastructure and governance (UIG) scheme of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Seasonal variations and effects of ambient air pollutants on palak (Beta vulgaris L. var. Allgreen) plants were investigated with respect to root, shoot length, number of leaves plant-1, leaf area and root and shoot biomass at a suburban site situated in dry tropical area of India, experiencing elevated levels of ambient air pollutants.
We investigated the mid stream water quality of Ganga river as influenced by aerially - driven heavy metals at Varanasi, India. Twelve sampling stations were selected along a 20 km long stretch of the river. Mid stream sub-surface water samples collected at fortnightly intervals from all the sites were acid digested and analyzed for Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn.
LUCKNOW: The state was reeling under severe heat wave on Sunday with unrelenting sun and hot gusty winds people to crave for early respite from the hard weather.
As Allahabad, Varanasi, Kanpur and Lucknow vied for being the hottest on the day, it was Allahabad that baked at 46 degrees Celsius.
The city witnessed the hottest day of the year so far with the mercury touching the highest mark.
