With plastic ban going awry, the City Corporation has been long searching for new options to deal with plastic menace. It is all set to begin three plastic shredding units in the city to reduce its transportation to Vilappilsala.

The local body is awaiting the arrival of plastic shredders for the units to be set up at Peroorkada and Manacaud (adjacent to the markets) and Medical College.

Electronic waste (e-waste) or Waste from Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) as it is popularly called includes used, obsolete or damaged electronic and electrical equipments and other such scrap. Recycling of WEEE has emerged as a lucrative business as these products are stripped down to obtain valuable metals like platinum, gold and copper.
