Mumbai: To expedite projects that could curb flooding in Mumbai, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee increased the allocation for the Brihanmumbai storm water drain (Brimstowad) project in the current fiscal year from Rs200 crore, earmarked during the interim budget, to Rs500 crore.

MANGALORE/UDUPI/MadikerI: Rain in Coastal Karnataka on Monday damaged houses, caused water-logging in residential areas and inundated paddy fields. In anticipation of further rainfall, all schools in Dakshina Kannada will remain closed today in view of heavy rainfall. MUMBAI: Heavy rains lashed the city on Firday leading to water logging in many low lying areas and disrupting
traffic.

"Water logging was reported in central Mumbai's Byculla, Parel, Mahalaxmi, Mahim, Goregaon and Milan Subway in the western suburbs following the rains," a Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) official said.

KOCHI: Nothing but stench and waterlogging welcome those who reach West Kochi.

With the onset of monsoon, roads and streets in West Kochi, including those in the heritage area of Fort Kochi and Mattanchery, are under water. The canals are filled with various waste spreading stench and makes the life miserable.

The Assam Government has almost resigned to the fate that waterlogging in Guwahati city cannot be totally prevented and now the focus is on ensuring quick discharge of water to reduce the miseries of the citizens.
