Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Discharge of Harmful Waste in River Ganga, 02/05/2016 . Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has identified 764 industrial units discharging into River Ganga. The five key industrial sectors (Pulp & Paper, Distillery, Sugar, Textile and Tannery) contribute to about 90% of organic pollution load. Sector and State-wise details of the industries is given at Annexure-I.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Damage to Crops, 29/04/2016. During the year 2015-16, Karnataka (both for Kharif and Rabi), Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan, had submitted Memoranda on drought seeking financial assistance from NDRF. The details regarding funds approved during last year to various drought affected States is at Annexure-I.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Storage Capacity of Reservoirs, 28/04/2016. Central Water Commission (CWC) monitors the water storage position of 91 major reservoirs in the country. State-wise current storage position as on 21.04.2016 and average of last 10 years storage of these reservoirs is annexed.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Power Generation in Drought Situation, 28/04/2016. Production of Hydro Electric Power Generation in the country for the year 2015-16 was lower at 121.34 BU against the target of 128 BU mainly due to lesser rainfall experienced in some regions of the country. State-wise generation for the year 2015-16 is given in Annex.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Depletion in Ground Water Level, 28/04/2016. Ground water is continuously being exploited due to growth in population, increased industrialization and irrigation and its use being highly inefficient, has resulted in decline of ground water levels in various parts of the Country. Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) under the Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR carries out ground water monitoring, four times a year, on regional scale through a network of observation wells in the Country including Haryana and Punjab.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Availability and Utilisation of Water, 28/04/2016. Estimated average annual availability of water is 1869 BCM and utilizable quantum of surface water in major river basin of the country is 690 BCM (Details as per Annexure). In addition replenishable Ground Water is 433 BCM. It is however, estimated that about 450 BCM of surface water is being utilized for various purposes annually. Additionally, about 245 BCM of ground water is also being utilized annually for various purposes.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Sewage Treatment Plants, 26/04/2016. As per the inventorization of sewage treatment plants (STPs) carried out by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in 2014-15, out of 601 STPs established in various States and Union Territories, 522 STPs are operational while 79 are non-operational. Statewise details are at Annexure.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Pollution in Two-Tier Cities, 26/04/2016. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is monitoring ambient air quality in 74 Tier-II cities. The ambient air quality data for the period 2015 pertaining to two-tier cities in the country given at Annexure. Analysis of data shows that 41 cities exceed the ambient air quality standard. In addition these cities are also facing problem of water pollution due to discharges of untreated sewage.

Question raised in Lok Sabha Drought in States, 26/04/2016. During the year 2015-16, Karnataka (both for Kharif and Rabi), Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan, had submitted Memoranda on drought seeking financial Assistance from NDRF. Details regarding the number of districts declared drought affected by these States are at Annexure-I. The details regarding funds demanded and approved during last three years to various drought affected States are at Annexure-II.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Census of Animals, 26/04/2016. Wild animal census of iconic species like Tiger, Elephant, Rhino and Lions are carried out by the respective State/UT Governments. However, at the national level, Tiger census is carried out periodically. As per the latest census, the estimated population of tiger, elephant, lion and rhinoceros as received from the States is given in the Annexure.
