A field experiment was conducted in Allahabad District of Uttar Pradesh to test the possibility of utilizing fly ash, in afforestation of sodic soil with Albizia procera, as a substitute of fertilizers and amendments. Fly ash proved to be a good substitute of rice husk, was superior. Similarly the treatments where fertilizer was replaced with fly ash have also shown better performance of plant.
An ethnomedicinal survey was undertaken to collect the information about medicinal plants in two villages (Utpalta and Kwarka) of Chakrata Forest Division, Uttarakhand. Common plants with medicinal value were catalogued based on the collection during the field trips and the information was gathered through oral interviews conducted with local knowledgeable villagers of selected study area.
Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is characterized by a rich diversity of ethnomedicinal plants and a rich heritage of traditional medicine practices. The present study showed that 139 species of plants belonging to 51 different families were used in tribal medicine of this region. However, 27 per cent of medicinal plants of this region are under different categories of threat.
Mineral status and some physiological parameters of Lannea coromandelica (Houtt) Merr. (Anacardiaceae) were estimated during leaf active growth period. Elephants and human beings in Rajaji National Park in northern India are increasingly arriving into conflict because of the conversion of elephant's natural habitat into agricultural areas. Besides, railway track which passes through the park area, national highways, anthropogenic activities etc are restricting frequent movement of elephants within their home range.
