Details of projects on Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) approved for mission cities is annexed. These projects broadly envisage
replication of metro rail facilities on the bus system.

According to the 58th Round of National Sample Survey, 73.6%
of urban households have access to tap water, 19.6% households have access to
tubewell and hand pump and 5.1% have access to pump. However, there are 11 Nos.
of towns/cities across the country which have no piped water supply
(ANNEXURE-I). There is no town in Tamil
Nadu, where the households do not have access to tap water.

The pollution load on rivers has increased over the years due to rapid urbanisation and industrialization. Domestic sewage is the major source of pollution of rivers besides industrial and other non-point sources of pollution. Abstraction of water for irrigation, drinking, industrial use, power etc. compounds the challenge.

The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) provides funds to the States and Union Territories (UTs) including SPCBs/PCCs under various schemes which include the schemes of Assistance for Abatement of Pollution, Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs), Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs), National River Conservation Programme (NRCP) and National Lake Conservation Plan (NLCP).
