The Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) has said that the groundwater sources in seven districts of Andhra Pradesh (Anantapur, East Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, Kurnool, Nellore and Prakasam) have arsenic levels greater than 0.01 mg/l. The maximum permissible limit of arsenic for drinking water purpose is 0.01mg/l at present.

Daram Govinda Rajan resident of Chataparru, Eluru mandal, Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh filed an application before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) regarding massive illegal encroachments by construction of ponds leading to ecological destruction in Kolleru lake which is one of the prominent lakes in Eluru and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed the state of Andhra Pradesh to file a status report on waste management in Andhra Pradesh as on March 31, 2023 by April 15, 2023.

The court, November 17, 2022 also directed further remedial measures to be taken urgently which would address the following issues:

1. Verification of impact of bioremediation of drains on reduction of BOD and fecal coliform to save unnecessary expenditure if no positive impact is taking place
