Initiating a massive Rs.2,000-crore road infrastructure development project, the Delhi Government on Wednesday set the ball rolling with its Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) approving 26 projects in this regard. A total of 31 projects worth Rs.584 crore, of which 27 would be executed by the Public Works Department and four by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, were approved in the meeting.

Following a meeting of the committee, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who also holds the Finance portfolio, said the mega road infrastructure development program, which is estimated to cost over Rs.2,000 crore, would be completed within two years.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday reserved order on a petition seeking review of an order dismissing a public interest litigation (PIL) praying for scrapping of the BRT corridor in the Capital.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Manmohan Singh reserved the order on conclusion of arguments by the Delhi Government and the petitioner, voluntary organisation Nyaya Bhoomi, seeking review of the order.

The sex ratio in the national capital has increased from 821 in 2001 census to 866 in 2011, but it is still below the national ratio, according to data released by the Delhi government which puts the city’s population at 1.67 crore.

The Delhi Government has sought the Centre’s permission to allow it to divert the gas supply meant for the Gas Turbine Power Plant and the Indraprastha Plant to its new plant at Bawana. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday asked the Centre to ensure supply of gas to the Bawana power plant as power production at the facility remained severely affected due to shortage of fuel.
