In a big boost to the Metrolink Express between Gandhinagar and Express (MEGA), the Central Government has finally proposed a provision of Rs 6,450.75 crore assistance for all metro rail projects for the current fiscal of 2013-14. The assistance has been announced as a central tax reimbursement for the projects, wherein MEGA would receive Rs 10.1 crore this year.

Rs 15,000-crore aluminium park stuck as both parties ponder setting up of smelter

Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC)’s ambitious Rs 15,000-crore aluminium park in Kutch, Gujarat, is again staring at hurdles. GMDC wants to set up a one-million-tonne alumina refinery and a 50,00,000-tonne aluminium smelter. However, its partner, National Aluminium Company (Nalco), is wary of the smelter, as converting alumina into aluminium requires mega power generation.

The Gujarat Irrigation and Drainage Bill, 2013, which was passed in the state assembly on February 27, amidst opposition from the Congress, has got the assent from Governor Dr Kamla Beniwal, water resources minister Babu Bokhiria said on Thursday."I got the message yesterday that the Governor has approved the Gujarat Irrigation and Drainage Bill, 2013," Bokhiria told Business Standard.
