Aug. 1: Political leaders are creating fear among their faction rivals in Anantapur district by hacking trees and blocking borewells.
This method of threatening rivals started three decades ago in Putlur and Yellanur mandals of Dharmavaram constituency and subsequently spread to other mandals.

July 13: The Centre will take up a survey to demarcate the boundaries of five iron ore mines in Anantapur forests to resolve the dispute on alleged illegal mining by Obulapuram Mining Company, owned by the Karnataka tourism minister, Mr Gali Janardhan Reddy.

June 22: Mud snakes and star tortoises from Anantapur and Kadapa districts are being smuggled out of the state for a neat profit.
Unscrupulous traders from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa and Anantapur in the state have been buying mud snakes weighing three kg for Rs 3 lakh and star turtles with stripes for Rs 4 lakh.

May 29: The Nannari plant, from which the famous Rayalaseema sharbat is made, has been listed among endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Apart from the Nannari plant, 46 other species from the State have also been put in the red list by the IUCN.

ANANTAPUR: Iron ore mining continues in Obulapuram and H. Siddapuram villages amid confusion prevailing over the letter written by the Forest Conservation Division of Union Ministry of Environment directing the State government to suspend five mining leases till clear demarcation of boundaries is finalised.

April 29: After three de-cades, developmental works at Thimmamma Marrimanu are going to materialise with its adoption by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Many leaders in the past had given assurances to develop the site, but to no avail.
Thimmamma Marrimanu is a huge banyan tree, 550-years-old and spread over eight acres of land. It is in SP Kunta mandal in Kadiri constituency.

While declining real product prices faced by primary commodity producers was one of the central causes of rising farm indebtedness, the gradual shrinkage of formal credit institutions in rural areas has simultaneously caused increasing dominance of private players in the credit market, rendering producers all the more vulnerable.
