March 10: For the last one week, forest fires have become a regular feature in Chittoor district, particularly in Tirupati division, with hundreds of acres burnt on the Tirumala hills, Panapakkam, Mungilipattu and Rangampeta.

TIRUPATI: A herd of around two dozen elephants created havoc have strayed into Lakshmipuram village in Kuppam mandal of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh and caused damage to fields. They had strayed into the State from Karnataka through the Gudupalle-Kuppam route.

The elephants reportedly entered the village around 10.30 p.m. on Monday and flattened the fields before entering a water tank.

Dec. 15: People living in the border villages of AP-Tamil Nadu in Kuppam mandal have been living with fear following movement of leopards close to their habitations from the nearby forest since last three weeks.

Moreover, forest range officer, Mr Mogileswar Rao, also confirmed about leopards prowling in the region.

Kurnool, Sept. 13: In the wake of wild animal attacks on cattle and humans, the forest department has concentrated on the leopard population to drive them back into the forests.

Following a leopard attack on pilgrims trekking the Tirumala hillock, forest officials kept surveillance on their movements.

Tirupati/Kadiri, Sept. 8: A rabies-infected wolf on Wednesday created havoc in seven villages for about nine hours in Chittoor district, biting and scratching at least 40 people before angry villagers stoned the animal to death.
