MUMBAI: The Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) has lifted the ban on sand mining in the ecologically fragile Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts along the Konkan coast, for two years. But while making this announcement, environment minister Jairam Ramesh clarified that mining activities will be restricted to those areas that do not fall under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
