The scare of crocodiles has driven devotees away from the ghats of the Ganga river in Hardwar.

Two crocodiles have been sighted upstream in the Ganga river in the past two days. The first crocodile was seen by devotees taking a holy dip at the Birla Ghat in the Ganga on Saturday and as the news spread across the town, panic gripped the people.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is the key international agreement regulating trade in wildlife. It works through a system of trade controls based on biological and international trade data of species.

LUCKNOW: A crocodile rescued from outskirts of city was handed over to ghariyal rehabilitation centre at Kukrail on Wednesday. The semi-adult female crocodile has already been put in isolation at the centre to come to terms with its new surroundings. The isolation will continue for about 10 days.

KENDRAPARA: Nesting habitats of the salt-water crocodiles in the rivers and creeks of Bhitarkanika National Park are now being mapped through the application of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) .

Sixty-one of the 133 hatchlings of crocodiles and five of the 13 deer have been missing from Wild Animal Breeding Centre at Karomjal under Chandpai Range of the east wing of Sundarbans Forest Division.

The matter was detected after Chandpai Range Deputy Ranger Abdur Rob, who is also acting as caretaker of the breeding centre, conducted a recounting.
