Kodaikanal Lake which forms the heart of the resort is a star shaped lake, covering an area of about 24 hectares. Kodaikanal Lake was created in 1863 by Sir Hendry Levinge. The objectives of this study is to assess the physico-chemical and biological quality of the Kodaikanal lake and to assess whether the lake requires bioremidiation programme.

New Delhi: The Wildlife Crime Control Bureau and the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, working with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), on Sunday seized skins of a tiger and a leopard in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. While one tiger was found dead in Pilibhit and another in Ranthambhore on April 4, a two-year-old tiger cub was found dead in Chandrapur near Tadoba tiger reserve, Maharashtra, on Monday.

Ensuring better price for agriculture produces, bridging gap between lab and land and protecting existing cultivable lands alone will save agriculture and agriculturists in future, said Dindigul MLA K. Balabarathi.

DINDIGUL: Stern action will be initiated against persons who engage in burning of tyres, plastic and rubber items during Bogi festival, the penultimate day of Pongal festival. Unrestrained burning of tyres and plastic items would produce dense smoke and toxic fumes polluting air, water and soil, Collector R. Vasuki said here on Sunday.

DINDIGUL: Action had been initiated against lorries used for smuggling rice meant for public distribution system, said Collector R. Vasuki here on Tuesday.

DINDIGUL: A total of 2.30 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years will be immunised during the pulse polio programme to be held on December 21 and February 1. Twenty-five mobile medical centres will be set up to cover the children residing in remote and inaccessible areas, according to Collector R. Vasuki.

DINDIGUL: A total of 5.79 lakh people in Dindigul and over 3.75 lakh people in Theni district will benefit from the Re 1 a kg rice scheme of the State government.

Launching the scheme at a fair price shop here on Tuesday, Revenue Minister I. Periasami said that sale of rice, condiments and spices at subsidised rates in ration shops will reduce burden of the poor. People should make use of the scheme.
