The primary aim of framing legislation on regulation of drinking water is the protection of public health.

In the present study drinking water samples of different ground water sources had been analyzed for the estimation of a problematic chemical parameter nitrate. Analysis of drinking water samples of different sources in different zones in Alwar revealed that the concentration of nitrate had been recorded highest in drinking water samples of North-West Zone.

A cholera outbreak has ravaged Orissa's tribal-dominated Kalahandi, Koraput and Rayagada districts since early August. The state government says the region has reported 119 deaths so far. About

In last few years, Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh has been identified as endemic fluorosis affected region where a number of such cases have been reported in 18 villages. The study was undertaken to determine the severeness of the problem, for this a dental fluorosis survey of school students, monitoring of drinking water sources and awareness programme were conducted in the Jhiragadandi Naibasti village.

This report presents the environmental profiles of metropolitan cities and problem areas identified by CPCB and their groundwater quality status. The groundwater quality data obtained during survey were evaluated against drinking water quality requirements [BIS 10500, (1991) & WHO (1996) Standards]. Salinity, nitrate, Coliform & Fluoride are the main water quality issues in the metro cities and problem areas of the country.

In the early 1980s, K. C. Saha from the School of Tropical Medicine in Kolkata attributed skin lesions in West Bengal, India, to exposure to arsenic in groundwater pumped from shallow tube wells. Despite these findings, millions of tube wells have been
installed across the Bengal Basin, the geological formation that includes West Bengal and Bangladesh, and across river floodplains and deltas in southern Asia.

The present study deals with the physico-chemical parameters of ground water quality in Mundargi taluk of Gadag district, Karnataka state, the study has been carried out during September 2003.

A study to assess the supply of drinking water quality in Delhi, by examining the various physico-chemical parameters, namely pH, conductivity, TDS, SS, DO, BOD, COD, calcium and magnesium hardness, total hardness, alkalinity, salinity, turbidity of the pre-treated water samples from Bhagirathi, Wazirabad, Chandrawal, Haiderpur and Okhala Water Treatment Plants has been carried out.

The standard prescribes the requirements, test methods and sampling procedure for ascertaining the suitability of water for drinking purpose.

A report by Bureau of Indian Standards claims that 11 out of 11 samples taken by them from Delhi and tested in a lab have failed on all 19 parameters of the test. Testing of water samples was conducted to check organoleptic and physical parameters and know the chemical and toxic substances and bacteriological quality besides virological and biological parameters. Arvind Kejriwal is calling it fallacious and politically motivated. (00:01 to 29:00 mins)
