The problems and the difficulties being faced by the Scheduled Tribes and tribal areas in the country, which are sought to be addressed by the National Tribal Policy 2006, are likely to undergo a change with the passage of time. The issues which are besetting the Scheduled Tribes and the tribal areas at present may be resolved to some extent and new issues and problems may emerge. It may not therefore be prudent to have an immutable National Tribal Policy.

This report highlights the importance of social protection in the struggle against global poverty. Social protection aims to enhance the capacity of poor and vulnerable persons to manage economic and social risks, such as unemployment, sickness, disability and old age.
