New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may deliberate on freeing auto fuel prices when he reviews the financial health of state-run oil firms with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and oil minister Murli Deora on January 13.

New Delhi: Fuel worth Rs 100-150 crore is wasted on highways annually due to inter-state and intra-state checkpost delays and elaborate checking of documents, a recent study by logistics major Transport Corporation of India (TCI) and IIM-Calcutta has found. The joint study also claimed bad road condition resulted in reduction of average truck speed to only 20 kmph.

After a year of wrangling between the heavy industries, surface transport and power ministries, the PMO has decided that the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) will formulate the norms and notify them under the Energy Conservation Act while the surface transport ministry will ensure its implementation.
