Shortage of fuel at HPCL outlets in region

A majority of retail outlets of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) in Punjab and Haryana are facing an acute shortage of fuel for the past 10 days. The stock-transfer agreement with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has reportedly not been honoured by HPCL in other parts of the country (Bihar and Andhra Pradesh), forcing the IOC to restrict fuel supply to HPCL in the region.

Haryana roads to be upgraded: Hooda

Bhupinder Singh Hooda Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has said that 1560 km long roads would be carpeted and upgraded by the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board at a cost of Rs.500 crore during the current financial year. This paper estimates and compares the paid-out cost of cultivation of wheat in India, the most state-protected crop, during the input subsidy regime of the 1970s and 1980s and after its abolition in the 1990s, when economic reforms were initiated. The study uses the valuable time series information collected as part of the "comprehensive scheme' of the ministry of agriculture.

Sukhdev Singh, 30, a contract labourer from village Kharakha in Sikar district in rural Haryana was desperate to get married. His parents, Hasan Ram and Ranu Bai, had tried to find a match for him but after seven fruitless years they finally gave up. The reason for the shortage of brides lies in Haryana's sex ratio which is acutely skewed with 861 females for every thousand males. In other words, out of every hundred males, 14 would be unable to find a bride. The brunt of this problem is felt the most by poor, rural males.
