New Delhi: In the run-up to the polls and just before the election code of conduct kicked in, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government cleared infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,220 crore in the last ten days of February. According to an official release, the public private partnership appraisal committee (PPPAC) granted approval to seven projects in the sectors of roads and ports.

Vulnerable Olive Ridley turtles find diverse support in Orissa, India

The Dhamra Port project in Orissa has attracted considerable attention due to its proximity to vulnerable Olive Ridley turtle nesting grounds. The question is - can large infrastructure projects like this be environmentally sustainable? In a breakthrough workshop held by IUCN, developers and environmentalists have joined together to tackle this complex and controversial issue.

Causal analysis of car CO2 emissions and urban infrastructure using structural equation modeling

The present study examined the relationship between urban land use and car transportation. The results derived from applications of the structural equations modeling revealed that suburbanization directly caused a proportional increase in car ownership and construction of roads, and in turn, indirectly increased the carbon dioxide emissions from cars.
