June 3: The allotments of low-cost flats to the poor in the capital is likely to begin in a couple of months. Delhi government is building low-cost houses for the poor under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Poverty is a multidimensional concept and cannot be defined unidimensionally. Poverty means non-fulfilment of the human right to a range of basic capabilities, e.g. nourishment, shelter, education, security, justice, earning a livelihood. One of the important components of the right to live with dignity and also a significant constituent of the right to equality is the right to adequate housing.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and District In-charge Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Tuesday said that at least 50 works of the total 137 works planned under the special grant of Rs 100 crore released to Mysore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) would be completed before Dasara this year.
