To address issues emerging out of these new pressures and their effects on environment, forest and wildlife, a national conference of states environment and forests ministers is being held in the capital on Tuesday.

Additional Chief Secretary (Forests) Prashant Mehta said that development of public-private participation model is necessary for improvement of degraded forests in the state. He said that bamboo plantation should be done in large scale. Private institutions can take up the work of plantation of trees in degraded forests.

AGARTALA, Aug 10: In a bid to protect, conserve and develop the degraded forest areas, the State Government has constituted as many as 472 Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMC) with local communities.
