NEW DELHI: North Eastern states including Meghalaya have slipped on universal child immunization programme raising concern along with some other mainland states even though smaller states other than the region have fared better, according to the Government
Imphal, Sept 13: Even though the government had claimed that at least 4,18,613 households were given employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREG) scheme in Manipur in 2009-10, some villagers of Imphal East district alleged they were given to work only for a few days instead of the designated 100 days.
The prevalence of overweight and obesity and their associated factors among schoolchildren in Manipur had not been studied. The authors did a cross-sectional study among 3356 schoolchildren of classes VIII to XII in Imphal West District, Manipur between September 2005 and August 2006.
It is said that for a nation to be able to breathe, it must have at least 33 per cent of its area covered by forests. By that measure, India looks to be in trouble, with a total forest cover of 21.02 per cent, according to the India State of Forest Report 2009 put out by the Ministry of Environment & Forests.
