Order of the National Green Tribunal (Principal Bench, New Delhi) in the matter of Octavia Albuquerque & Ors. Vs. Union of India & Ors. dated 09/05/2014 regarding filling of major part of the creek as well as some part of the River Gurupur, Mangalore for the purposes of establishing the Fishery Harbour and Processing Unit at the site in question.

The temporal and spatial dynamics of primary and secondary biomass/production in the Barents Sea since the late 1990s are examined using remote sensing data, observations and a coupled physical-biological model. Field observations of mesozooplankton biomass, and chlorophyll a data from transects (different seasons) and large-scale surveys (autumn) were used for validation of the remote sensing products and modeling results.

Bottom trawl fishing threatens deep-sea ecosystems, modifying the seafloor morphology and its physical properties, with dramatic consequences on benthic communities. Therefore, the future of deep-sea fishing relies on alternative techniques that maintain the health of deep-sea ecosystems and tolerate appropriate human uses of the marine environment. In this study, we demonstrate that deep-sea bottom longline fishing has little impact on vulnerable marine ecosystems, reducing bycatch of cold-water corals and limiting additional damage to benthic communities.

The effects of climate and fishing on marine ecosystems have usually been studied separately, but their interactions make ecosystem dynamics difficult to understand and predict. Of particular interest to management, the potential synergism or antagonism between fishing pressure and climate forcing is analysed in this paper, using an end-to-end ecosystem model of the southern Benguela ecosystem, built from coupling hydrodynamic, biogeochemical and multispecies fish models.

This draft fisheries policy released by Odisha government is aimed at bridging the gap between the demand and supply of fish for domestic consumption, encouraging public private partnership (PPP) investment in fisheries sector and tapping the untapped potential of aquaculture to ensure food and nutritional security. The Olive Ridley Project was initiated in response to large numbers of olive ridleys turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) found entangled in fishing nets in the Maldives. This species of sea turtle is rarely observed in the Maldives; however, since 2011 marine biologists, dive masters and boat captains have recorded 47 olive ridleys entangled in fishing nets. The recorded entanglements have occurred through chance encounters suggesting the data only reflects a small proportion of the actual number of ghost net entrapments of olive ridleys in this region.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Ramdas Janardan Koli Vs The State of Maharashtra dated 11/03/2014 regarding constructions by CIDCO and others in CRZ area. The Tribunal has ordered that "there shall be no further work carried out for reclamation and particularly, in respect of shortening of width of the channel/draft, available for egress and ingress of the tidal currents and boats of the fishermen in the creek area, as shown in the
map about which the complaint has been made and which is likely to create a bottle neck".

The 2010 Deepwater Horizon (MC252) disaster in the northern Gulf of Mexico released more than 4 million barrels of crude oil. Oil rose from the ocean floor to the surface where many large pelagic fish spawn. Here we describe the impacts of field-collected oil samples on the rapidly developing embryos of warm-water predators, including bluefin and yellowfin tunas and an amberjack. For each species, environmentally relevant MC252 oil exposures caused serious defects in heart development.

If National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) has its way, fishermen along the Tamil Nadu coast can sail just a few kilometres into the sea once in a few months and return with a catch of 10 ton
