Going a step ahead of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, NCP leader and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has urged all MPs to devote a higher share of their MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds for irrigation and drought-proofing works in their respective constituencies.

To expedite the process of financial inclusion in the State which as per the report of the Rangarajan Committee on Financial Inclusion has a sizeable section of the population excluded from basic banking opportunities and services, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has come up with a slew of farmer-oriented projects.

Chandigarh: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 127 crore and Rs 245 crore for Punjab and Haryana, respectively, for improving rural infrastructure under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).

Since the inception of RIDF, Nabard has sanctioned more than 40,000 projects with a loan component of Rs 5,806 crore to the West Bengal Government.
