The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday directed the public prosecutor to secure records pertaining to work on Tungabhadra Left and Right Bank canals in Bellary, Raichur and Koppal districts.

The state government on Tuesday submitted its objections in the matter related to the ban on the insecticide Endosulfan.

The state government said it banned the insecticide based on the report of the committee which it had formed.

KOLKATA, 27, JULY: Ramakrishna Mission has sunk six tubewells in the Aila-affected areas in South 24 Parganas using the Statesman Calamity Relief Fund. Three tubewells have been sunk in Chotomollakhali, Bazarpara, two in Kumirmari and one in Amtali in South 24 Parganas under the Aila cyclone relief project taken up by the RKM.

As many as 236 villages in 13 districts of the State have been reeling under acute drinking water shortage. A sum of Rs 19 crore has been released to supply water through tankers to these villages.
