The Planning Commission is contemplating a proposal to give special weight to the domestic infrastructure companies over their foreign counterparts for their experience in construction projects in the country.

This comes in the face of domestic infrastructure companies accusing the central government of giving preference to the foreign companies through the new eligibility norms in awarding contracts.

The vast majority of the nearly 2 million miles of paved roads in the United States are surfaced with asphalt pavement, which is made by combining a thick hydrocarbon mixture known as liquid asphalt binder with sand, gravel, or crushed stone ("aggregate"). Each year about 60 million tons of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) pavement are laid on U.S. roads, according to figures presented last spring at the 12th Annual Minnesota Pavement Conference.

Warns officials not to ignore Congress workers seeking grievance redressal

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has directed the officials to repair the roads of Gurgaon city within six months. He was addressing a meeting of Congress workers of Gurgaon and Faridabad Lok Sabha constituencies at Gurgaon over the weekend.

He said a Central University would be opened at Mahendergarh and a Defence University would be set up at Gurgaon. A Sainik School would be opened in the Rewari district.

Miners in eastern India, especially within a radius of 200 km from the Orissa and Jharkhand borders have decided to build a road more than 600 km long, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 300 crore. Approximately, 80 per cent of mines in the two states are in this area.

The caretaker government took a crash course to salvage the crumbling traffic in the capital by evicting illegal possessions on footpaths and roads, constructing safe bus-stops and introducing staggered school timing under a package of measures.
Before confronting the problem head-on, the action plans were explained at a high-level meeting on Traffic Congestion in Dhaka City and its Solution at the Chief Adviser's Office on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Under pressure from various quarters for its failure to repair potholes on the Capital's roads following tall promises, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to constitute a monitoring committee under the chairmanship of Additional Commissioner (Engineering) to ensure that the work of road repair is completed within 10 days.

The decision was announced by Deputy Leader of House Ved Prakash Gupta on Wednesday.

Mohali, August 19 The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is axing trees to pave way for constructing, strengthening, widening and upgrading of the inner and outer roads in the city. Local residents are, however, pained to see how mercilessly the greenery of the city is being murdered.
More than 1,500 full-grown trees in different parts of the city are being cut under the project to revamp the road network.

Pune, August 19 In a major relief to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the Union government on Tuesday approved Rs 511 crore additional funds for roadwork, including BRTS, being implemented under JNNURM. Of this, the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) roads get Rs 165 crore though there are only about 50 days to go for its inaugural day.
"The Union government has approved the revised estimation proposal of the PMC with additional funds of Rs 511 crore,' Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale told The Indian Express from Delhi.

An action plan to identify and implement various projects for an amount of Rs 551.63 lakh, released under the SFC scheme, was passed unanimously by the members of the Kolar City Municipal Council, at a special meeting organised here on Tuesday.

The action plan was created, at the special meeting, which was presided by CMC President Nazeer Ahmad.
On the occasion, CMC member S R Muraligowda urged the meeting to earmark an amount of Rs 35 lakh separately for the CMC staff members and the pourakarmikas towards their salaries.

Mumbai, August 9 Finding an ecological solution to reuse polythene and plastic waste, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation laid a 100-metre stretch of road at Dadar using plastic and asphalt. This stretch on Prof V S Agashe Road near the Kohinoor Technical Institute in Dadarwas laid by the civic body's Road department with the help of the Indian Centre for Plastics in the Environment (ICPE) . The BMC will test its sustainability for a year and then decide whether to lay an entire stretch of road using waste plastic.
