THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The draft Kerala road development policy, released by Public Works Minister Mons Joseph here on Thursday, proposes introduction of a cess on fuel, levy on utilities and services on road sides and a deterrent fee on luxury vehicles to fund higher levels of road development over the next 12 years.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Rs 30-crore proposal for renovating the footpaths on major roads in the State has been put forth by a high-level meeting convened by PWD Minister Mons Joseph.

For the last three decades, the problem of water, electricity and road has remained the main issues for the government. The government's development plans get restricted on these issues. Also from the very beginning these issues have been handled by the government.

It appears that our understanding of the urban ecosystem in our cities will continue to limit our competence in providing environmentally and ecologically sustainable alternatives for urban habitats. One solution, experts argue, is to go vertical, while improving all the other needed services like roads, water and waste disposal.
