Ganga river health very poor: Jairam

It was a telling remark on how the Ganga remains polluted despite the crores that have been poured into projects to ensure it remains clean.

As Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, "The Ganga is not as clean as it should have been. The health of the Ganga is very poor. It leaves a lot to be desired."

PWD to tap water from Tillari project

PWD Minister Churchill Alemao on Sunday unveiled plans to boost availability of drinking water in Bardez and Salcete within the next 8-9 months.
Admitting that Bardez has been facing water disruptions due to leakages, Alemao said the PWD has sanctioned a 50 mld water treatment plant at Assonora and the same would take shape by June 2010.

40 sewage plants will be set up

Hyderabad, Nov. 8: Plans are afoot to clean up the waters of the lakes.

Mr Zafarullah Khan, executive engineer (lakes department) with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), says there are plans to set up 40-odd sewage treatment plants so that untreated sewage is not dumped in the lakes.
