The Left Front government in Tripura has announced to achieve open defecation free status for all the 1,118 villages of the sate under Swachh Bharat Mission in the coming financial year.

The provision of low-cost sanitary napkins to women in rural areas is not an answer to the myriad problems they face in menstrual management. Apart from the need for a mechanism for ensuring the quality of the products and reducing the environmental cost of non-reusable products, the need is for a change in the attitude towards menstruation. It is because this is a taboo topic ruled by religio-cultural conventions that rural women face not only discomfort but also problems linked to reproductive health.

The Supreme Court on March 16, 2016 gave two weeks to Kalka Ji Temple authorities to implement several measures suggested by the committee it had formed, that include cleanliness of the premises and putting up barricades to contain the crowd of devotees.The bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Shiva Kirti Singh asked the authorities to clean the DDA parking as well as all the other parking areas, besides instructing them to keep the toilets clean.
