Order of the National Green Tribunal (Principal Bench, New Delhi) in the matter of Jai Kumar Vs. Union of India & Ors. dated 18/12/2014 regarding the Indian rule of mandatory spraying of planes with pesticides Phenothrin 2%.

This 32-page report describes 16 years of failure by Thailand’s Pollution Control Department and public health authorities to prevent further exposure to lead among the village’s ethnic Karen residents.

Chemicals that have estrogenic activity (EA) can potentially cause adverse health effects in mammals including humans, sometimes at low doses in fetal through juvenile stages with effects detected in adults. Polycarbonate (PC) thermoplastic resins made from bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical that has EA, are now often avoided in products used by babies. Other BPA-free thermoplastic resins, some hypothesized or advertised to be EA-free, are replacing PC resins used to make reusable hard and clear thermoplastic products such as baby bottles.

Neonicotinoids are the most widely used insecticides world-wide, but their fate in the environment remains unclear, as does their potential to influence non-target species and the roles they play in agroecosystems. The researchers investigated in laboratory and field studies the influence of the neonicotinoid thiamethoxam, applied as a coating to soya bean seeds, on interactions among soya beans, non target molluscan herbivores and their insect predators.

Track the growth of plastic waste, from the time of discovery of polyethelene in 1933 till the present, when plastics have become a major environmental hazard on land and in sea.

Phthalates are used as plasticizers in soft polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and in a large number of consumer products. Due to reported health risks, di-isononyl phthalate (DiNP) has been introduced as a replacement for diethyl hexyl phthalate (DEHP) in soft PVC. This raises concerns since animal data suggest that DiNP may have anti-androgenic properties similar to DEHP. The anogenital distance (AGD) – the distance from the anus to the genitals – has been used to assess reproductive toxicity.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disrupting environmental contaminant used in a wide variety of products, and BPA metabolites are found in almost everyone’s urine, suggesting widespread exposure from multiple sources. Regulatory agencies estimate that virtually all BPA exposure is from food and beverage packaging. However, free BPA is applied to the outer layer of thermal receipt paper present in very high (~20 mg BPA/g paper) quantities as a print developer.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Central Zonal Bench, Bhopal) in the matter of Sandeep Lahariya Vs. State of M.P. & Ors. dated 15/10/2014 regarding the issue of pollution being caused as a result of non compliance of the Plastic Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 2011 in general and to prohibit manufacture, sale, distribution, storage and use of plastic carry bags as well as their proper disposal.

Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in the pathogenesis of a variety of disorders including cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. Understanding whether different environmental chemicals and drug-like molecules impact mitochondrial function represents an initial step in predicting exposure-related toxicity and defining a possible role for such compounds in the onset of various diseases.

Researchers have found out in a study in Japan that climate change may be held responsible for altering the ratio of human males to females that are born in some countries.
