Every monsoon, the Dahisar River, which runs from the edge of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park to Dahisar creek at Mira Road, gets a new lease of life.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Pollution of Water Bodies, 08/03/2016. Monitoring of marine pollution through Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Prediction System Programme is carried out by Integrated Coastal and Marine Area Management Project Directorate (ICMAM), Chennai under Ministry of Earth Sciences.

The General Body (GB) approved the Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) proposal to tap underground resources as a measure to counter the imminent water scarcity in the next few months.

The limited ground water resources in Rajasthan are increasingly being exploited for irrigation, Industrial and domestic uses. The impact of these stresses coupled with non uniform rainfall are manifested in the form of changes in water levels and groundwater quality in the State.

The groundwater of Ambagarh Chouki, Rajnandgaon, India, shows elevated levels of As and F−, frequently above the WHO guidelines. In this work, the concentrations of As, F−, Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl−, SO4 2−, HCO3 −, Fe, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in the groundwater of Ambagarh Chouki are described. The sources of dissolved components in the groundwater are investigated using the cluster and factor analysis. Five factors have been identified and linked to processes responsible for the formation of groundwater chemistry.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Western Zone Bench, Pune) in the matter of Manoj Jalamchand Oswal Vs. SON Ankur Exports Pvt. Ltd. & Ors. dated 02/12/2015 regarding the flow of contaminated water from the industrial unit of SON Ankur Exports Pvt. Ltd as a result of which the water of bore-well of the Applicant as well as bore-wells of the members residing in nearby vicinity are contaminated.

The main aim of this study was to evaluate the vulnerability of groundwater to contamination in the vicinity of Ramtha wastewater treatment plant using a modified DRASTIC method in a GIS environment. A groundwater pollution potential map was prepared using modified DRASTIC method by adding lineaments and land use/land cover parameters. The values of the modified DRASTIC index were classified into three categories: low, moderate and high.

Artificial recharge to groundwater is steadily assuming importance in the wake of the decline in water level in several parts of the country. Recharge through an injection well is the most suitable option of artificial recharge for semi-confined and confined aquifers, especially in urban and industrial areas as it requires little space. Recharging capacity of a well is an important criterion in deciding the number of recharge structures required for large-scale planning of artificial recharge.

The water-starved city seems to have benefitted a little bit from the intermittent but heavy rains during the last two weeks of July.
