Two workers at the Rawatbhata Atomic Power Station in Rajasthan have suffered exposure to high doses of radioactive tritium and are under observation.

The incident took place on June 23 at Unit 5 of the plant during routine maintenance work."There was no abnormal release of radioactivity to the environment," Nalinish Nagaich, Executive Director, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited said from Mumbai.

JAIPUR: In order to make the Ghat Ki Ghuni tunnel pollution free, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) will be installing twenty high speed ventilation fans. These fans will be imported from Germany.

A JDA senior official said, "After the tunnel will be made open for traffic, it is expected around 2500 vehicles will pass through it everyday resulted in heavy pollution. These fans will work as exhaust fan which will throw the tunnel air outside and bring fresh air from the tunnel inside."

JAIPUR: Ten months after the power tariff in the desert stat was revised, consumers are facing yet another hike in the tariff. According to reports, the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission has proposed yet another tariff hike of upto 90 paise on different sections of the domestic and commercial users in the state.

According to reports, the state discoms have proposed a hike of almost 25 per cent, a final decision over which is likely by the end of July. After a span of seven years, the commission in last September hiked the power tariff in the state and is all set to do so again within a month.

JAIPUR: Farmers have been sitting on a demonstration since May 10 to protest against the alleged theft of water from canal flowing from Haryana and Punjab to Sriganganagar and Hanumangarah districts in Rajasthan.

They alleged that theft of water from the canals had affected their agriculture activities badly. "We are not getting the amount of water from the canals which we should get because the farmers in Punjab and Haryana are taking the water from the canals illegally through big water pumps," Krishan Kumar Saharan, state president Rajasthan Kisan Union said.

JAIPUR: Rajasthan's industries and mines minister Rajendra Pareek has said that illegal mining in the state was like a 'socially organised crime'.

Pareek rubbished the BJP's allegations that illegal mining in the state enjoyed patronage from the Congressmen and counter accused the opposition party of shielding the culprits during its rule from 2003 to 2008. At the same time, the minister said that despite the mining department's special drives organised to check illegal mining since 2009, the state has been unable to rid itself of the crime completely. He stressed that the present Congress government was committed to close down illegal mines in the state.

JAIPUR: Natives of Panchayawala village woke up to panic a day after the area witnessed ammonia gas leak; the gas started leaking again on Tuesday morning from the storage tank of the same ice factory.

After the police officials, civil defense and fire department temporarily sealed off the leakage on Monday evening by inserting a wooden stick in the valve; the gas started seeping out again on Tuesday morning.

JAIPUR: The medical health and family welfare department is in the process of framing rules for effective implementation of the Clinical Establishment Act 2010, which was passed in the Vidhan Sabha last year.

A medical health and family welfare department official said, "We have started working on implementation of the Act. The rules are being framed for its effective implementation in the state."

JAIPUR: While the farmers in the state are provided with power at subsudised rates, new connections to them is likely to burn a hole in their pockets.

JAIPUR: Jaipur is among the five cities in the state where malaria control activities would be monitored on a regular basis. The move came after the Centre directed the state to intensify monitoring in the five districts as deaths were reported due to malaria in 2011. Four malarial deaths were reported in the city in 2011.

Besides, three districts, including Bikaner, Barmer and Jaisalmer, have attracted the attention of the Centre as malaria cases have increased in western parts of the state.
