The remote Tang gewog in Bumthang became the latest gewog to receive electricity under the rural electrification programme.

Energy experts, academics, business leaders and policymakers on Tuesday suggested immediate installation of a nuclear power plant as the country was facing huge shortage of primary energy like gas to produce electricity.

A special Indian Government delegation will arrive here within the next fortnight to start work on the proposed Indo-Lanka underwater electricity transmission cable project.

The US Interior Department said on Wednesday it would make more than 190 million acres of federal lands in 11 western states and Alaska available to energy companies to develop geothermal energy resources for generating electricity.

"These federal lands ... hold a huge energy potential," said Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne.

Provincial Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy Askari Taqvi laid the foundation stone of the first solar energy laboratory at Hamdard University on Thursday.
