LUCKNOW: Every second Indian undergoing treatment for tuberculosis comes from Uttar Pradesh.

LUCKNOW: The sarus census shows that barely five percent of sarus crane population is living in protected areas of the state, while the remaining 95% of the state bird is living outside these areas. Experts believe that it is this population, which needs protection and conservation.

The main purposes of this paper were to assess effects of smallholder farmers access to livelihood capital (e.g. land, livestock and water) on livestock water productivity (LWP) and to evaluate impacts of selected interventions in reducing livestock water demand (per unit of livestock product) and therefore increasing LWP.

The project

Out of the total geographical area of India about 53% suffers from different kinds of land degradation, and Uttar Pradesh accounts for 9.06%. About 4.0 m ha (11.03%) area of the country is suffering from ravine problem. U.P. shares 1.230 m ha (31%) ravine land of the country spread over in 25 districts of the state.

The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of organic amendments, bioinoculants and gypsum in relation to soil chemical properties in sodic soils. The experiment was conducted in two types of sodic land of cultivators field at village Muchehara of Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh durng kharif season of 2001-2002.

Sizzling tempera tures and paucity of water has begun to take a toll on the birds in UP. About a dozen peacock deaths have been reported form Etawah district in the past 24 hours and 10 Gray Francolin, popularly known as teetar have also been found dead in the same area. In Allahabad, in Ghoorpur village, half a dozen sparrows were found dead near a well.

Lucknow: The Forest department officials at Shahjahanpur are awaiting the sarus count eagerly. They are confident that their number in the district is certain to exceed those in Etawah and Mainpuri, accounting for the maximum number of Uttar Pradesh
