The Action Taken Report (ATR) of the Committee deals with the action taken by the Government on the recommendations/observations contained in Three Hundred Twenty Fourth Report of the Committee on 'Status of Forests in India' of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.

It covers the episodes of the 2019/2020 Australian bushfires, the 2015 Indonesia peatfires and smoke transport from boreal forest fires to the Arctic.

A new Greenpeace Indonesia report, Restoration Up in Smoke: Losing the Battle to Protect Peatlands, identifies major contradictions in the Indonesian government’s claims to meet its peatland restoration targets. Greenpeace analysis shows that repeated fires have occurred in the priority peatland restoration areas.

FAO published a new study on forest-related disasters that will help contribute to the development of effective responses for future incidents.

The report assesses the consumption emissions of different income groups between 1990 and 2015 – 25 years when humanity doubled the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Nearly three billion animals – mammals, reptiles, birds, and frogs – were killed or displaced by Australia’s devastating 2019-20 bushfires. It’s almost three times an earlier estimate released in January. The breakdown is 143 million mammals, 2.46 billion reptiles, 180 million birds, and 51 million frogs.

ISFR 2019 presents the results of forest cover mapping with a refined methodology, though consistent with the past assessments. A manual for forest cover mapping has been prepared for the first time.

It is heartening to note that as per the ISFR, 2019, the forest and tree cover of the country continues to show a rising trend despite immense pressure on our forests.
