Investments of over Rs 750 crore are expected to be made in infrastructure projects in West Bengal, particularly in Kolkata and the suburbs, if proposals to build several roads, overbridges and flyovers are cleared by the Centre.
First Air-Conditioned Bus By Dussehra

Ahmedabad:The first air-conditioned bus on the BRTS stretch will run by Dussehra. Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL), the governing body, is yet to decide on the ticket fare for a journey in the AC bus. BRTS will have at least 20 AC buses that will ply on the stretch by December this year.
The state government is looking forward to revamping the public transportation system in order to decrease the number of private cars, and thereby reduce traffic congestion by improving public transport, said Mr Asok Bhattacharya, state minister for municipal affairs and urban development.
This is the first comprehensive review of 13 modernized bus systems in 13 Latin American and Asian cities. It highlights common hurdles, problems encountered and positive lessons learnt in implementing BRT and citywide bus systems.
The BRTS has been a blessing for Naranpura residents who earlier depended heavily on shared rickshaws. The BRTS has virtually changed the way they commuted. It also means that the residents have to take a longer route to cross over. Earlier, there were several areas where one could cross over easily, but now one has to take a nearly one km drive to get to the other side of the road.
