The MCD has demanded the Delhi government to immediately release Rs 50 crores needed for beautification of the city for the Commonwealth Games 2010. The civic body plans to plant at leas 10 lakh trees and shrubs as well as spruce up its parks.

Mumbai: As rains lashed the city, the metropolis is all set to face the highest tide of the season which will hit its shores today.
The meteorological department had allayed fears of large scale flooding due to rains and said that it was unlikely very heavy rains would be experienced during the high tide period.

State health and civic officials have found the incidence of malaria, particularly the malignant variant, has increased in the city compared with last year, despite anti-mosquito drives by the civic body.

The officials suspect patient resistance to the drug chloroquine is the main reason for the spurt in malaria cases.

The incinerator, which burns 10 metric tonnes of bio-medical waste, is situated near residential buildings.

The irony of the project is that the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), its custodian, was not taken into confidence about the damaging changes being effected by the Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA), the agency in charge of the beautification plan.

MUMBAI: With levels in the lakes that supply water to the city at their lowest, the BMC on Wednesday cleared two proposals to carry out cloud seeding in the catchment areas. The decision was based on rainfall data for this monsoon so far- rain this year was 70% less than last year.
