Jamshedpur: Two years from now, the entire state will get a wholesome taste of East Singhbhum.

Deputy chief minister Raghubar Das today laid the foundation stone of a mega dairy project under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana at Baliguma, on the outskirts of the steel city.

Jamshedpur, March 22: In an attempt to lure away villagers from the influence of Naxalites, the East Singhbhum district administration has decided to take welfare schemes introduced by the Centre and state government to tribal homes in rebel strongholds.

Christened Prashasan Aapke Dwaar (administration on your doorstep), the special drive will start next week.

Jamshedpur, Jan. 19: The first meeting of the district managing council at the collectorate today took a look at various development measures to be undertaken in East Singhbhum.

Mining and processing of uranium ore was started in several parts of eastern Singhbhum, viz. Jaduguda, Bhatin and Narwapahar (Jharkhand) in 1968. Radioactivity in the mine tailings has to be consolidated so that it does not emanate in the atmosphere or enter the food chain.

The Uranium Corporation of India plans to expand its mining and ore processing operations in Jaduguda, Jharkhand, which will require an additional 6.37 hectares of forest land. The public hearing on the environmental clearance in May was a farcical exercise with company employees and their families crowding out the affected villagers.

The above figure explain that Chatra, Garhwa, Palamu, Hazaribag Kodarma, East Singhbhum district has more than 40% of geographical area as forest cover. Beside this, these districts are monocrop or no crop area. Chatra, Garhwa, Palamu are drought prone districts and virtually no agriculture practice is possible there. These districts are highly Maoists affected.

Some chose to walk to meet the people. Others preferred to address the weekend crowd at public places. Whatever may be the mode of communication, all made the usual promises to solve water woes and power pangs.

Thus kicked off the campaign in the East Singhbhum district for the first phase of elections scheduled on November 25.

contract labourers working at the Banduhurang mines in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand went on strike last month demanding health facilities and minimum wages. The protesting workers said the mine operator, Uranium Corporation of India Ltd (ucil), had turned down their demand to give information about radiation levels in the open cast mines.

Jamshedpur, Oct. 20: The industries department will work with the forest department to utilise bamboo resources to the hilt, in a bid to save the weavers in Manusmudia village in East Singhbhum district from penury.
