Sangrur :Residents of Punia Colony on the Haripura road here have been leading a miserable life due to the accumulation of dirty water, leaking from some manholes caused by the choking of sewer lines in front of their houses for the past many days. Due to choked sewer lines, dirty water has accumulated not only on the streets, but also on the main road. The residents, including doctors, are protesting against the collection of sewerage water on the main road and on the streets, but according to them, no one is listening to their grievances for the past one month.

The present investigation deals with the analysis of physico-chemical characteristics, concentration of heavy metals and textural analysis of sediments in Poovar estuary of Kerala during the period 2004-2005. Three sampling stations were selected and sediments were collected for the study.

: As a part of the ongoing polio virus control and environmental surveillance activities, the Sindh health department is considering a proposal to test sewage specimens to be collected from various parts of Karachi and others parts of Sindh. The samples are proposed to be examined in collaboration with certain national and international organizations to see if polio viruses were present. Sources in the health department said that the proposal was discussed at a meeting of senior representatives of international health organizations and the Sindh health department held here on Monday.
