Agartala: Oil giant ONGC along with a Vietnamese company will launch joint exploration for oil in the South China Sea despite objections from China, a top company official said on Tuesday.

“There is nothing wrong in it. ONGC-Videsh has got this asignment through an international bid and we will go ahead with our exploration work with a Vietnamese oil company,” ONGC Chairman and Managing Director Sudhir Vasudeva said here.

Agartala: Tripura will launch a disaster management programme in its schools to enhance the State’s preparedness in an event of a natural calamity striking it, an official said here on Monday.

“The government has launched an ambitious School Disaster Management Planning (SDMP) project from this academic session. Under it, teachers and students will be trained to deal with any natural disaster, including earthquake,” said State education department joint director Dilip Debbarma.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar laid the foundation stone for the Bamboo Park on January 27 which aimed to ensure value addition to bamboo. The Central government has sanctioned Rs 29 crore for its development, spread over 69 acres of land which is just 12 km from here.

The TERC last week has increased the power tariff up to 69 paisa per unit for the electricity being supplied by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).
