The matter related to failure to take action for protecting Astamudi wetland and Vembanad-kol wetland, a Ramsar site in Kollam district of Kerala.

The Kerala State Pollution Control Board had conducted a sanitation survey of Ashtamudi lake and found that the main reason for the pollution of the lake water was the indiscriminate discharge of sewage and dumping of solid waste from households and establishments.

The area should be restored to its original form as waterbody and steps taken for removal of water hyacinths, the judgment of the NGT, July 01, 2022 said.

Grievance in the application is against disposal of sewage and trade effluents in the Najafgarh drain. The applicant (Rao Satvir Singh) has said that Gurugram sewage and industrial waste is being discharged in the drain.
