The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has lauded the Punjab Horticulture Authority for taking steps to preserve old trees as part of eco-culture in Lahore.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the WWF praised efforts of PHA director-general Dr Raheel Siddidui for disallowing the cutting of an old maple tree in the Civil Secretariat, as reported in a local press.

Russia complained about a major Chinese river project on Monday which it says will harm the Russian environment, the latest sign of strained relations between the two countries.

In a statement, Russia's Environment Ministry expressed "serious concern on information about the continuation of construction in China of drainage canals, which may make the river Argun shallow on Russian territory."

A leading standard setter for voluntary carbon market offsets said on Wednesday it has eased its rules for Canadian projects that aim to cut emissions of greenhouse gases to issue carbon credits.

A forestry project is being launched in Galyat to help control carbon emissions. An announcement here on Tuesday said the project was being undertaken by the Engro Polymers and Chemical Limited (EPCL) after successful completion of Chaanga Maanga Project.
