Insecticide resistance management (IRM) strategy was devised and evaluated for the management of American bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) in cotton in on-farm research in Bathinda and surrounding villages, Punjab state, in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 which is the main cotton area in the South-Western region of Punjab.

An experiment was conducted during 2005-06 and 2006-07 in the Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Khalsa College, Amritsar to study the effect of combined used of farmyard manure and poultry manure with 75, 100 and 125 per cent NPK on productivity, nutrient uptake and profitability of autumn potato.

The experiment was conducted to study the residual effect of sulfonylurea herbicides applied to wheat on the different kharif crops as affected by organic matter. The results revealed that significantly higher wheat grain and straw yield was obtained where FYM was applied at 30 t/ha over 10 t ha-1 during both the years.

Now days due to economic security, paddy-wheat rotation is prevalent in Punjab. This crop rotation has directly or indirectly caused a lot of ecological, economic and health problems. According to Indian Council of Medical Research, a healthy person should consume 300g vegetables, 40g pulses and negligible quanity of fruits per person per day.

A field experiment on dual purpose barley was conducted to study the effect of row spacing and time of cutting on grain yield of barley varieties on a loamy sand soil during Rabi 2006-07 and 2007-08 at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

A study on the biodiversity and relative abundance of spiders associated with the horticultural ecosystem including fruit and vegetable crops in Kashmir, were conducted during 2005-2007. A total of 5774 individuals belonging to 40 species, 23 genera under 11 families were recorded first-time from Kashmir.

Composting of leaf litter using the epigeic, exotic earthworm Eisenia fetida and the microbial kinetize (Quikompost) was carried out in order to compare their efficacies in waste management. The quantity of leaf litter composted and the biomass (earthworm/microbial) recovered after composting were increased with increasing the quantity of earthworm/microbial kinetizer.

The nitrogen enriched phosphocompost was prepared utilizing the abundantly available green biomass of Lantana camara and supplemented with 12.5 and 25.0 per cent levels of rock phosphate, 1.0% fertilizer nitrogen (urea), 5.0 and 10.0 per cent pyrite or by inoculation with Azotobacter chroococcum and Aspergillus awamori.

The experiments were conducted at the farmer's fields in a cluster of villages of Chugawan block of Amritsar district during summer and winter seasons of 2006-07 to evaluate recommended dose of urea, plant population and lopping for basmati rice and zero tillage for wheat vis-a-vis farmers' practices.

The present investigation was carried out to study the distribution of biomass in different land uses viz., chir pine, ban oak, deodar, other broadleaves, culturable and un-culturable land uses, distributed in five forest ranges i.e., Dharampur, Parwanoo, Solan, Kandaghat and Subathu along altitudinal gradient from 900 to 2100 of Solan Forest Division, Himachal Pradesh.
