Samarthyam in collaboration with Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities have conducted walkability audits to evaluate the accessibility of street and road infrastructure, the interstitial spaces between buildings from and to transport terminus and key destinations in Delhi for persons with disabilities and reduce mobility.

Motorized three-wheelers play an important role in various Asian cities and towns. In the Philippines, these three-wheelers are called tricycles and primarily serve as feeders for residential and minor roads. However, in several towns in rural areas these tricycles serve as the main mode for transporting people all around town.

In this new report Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities analyzes the social and environmental impacts of motorized two and three-wheelers and provides an array of tailpipe and non-tailpipe measures to curb these.

This new study released by the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) benchmarks the pedestrian infrastructure of six Indian cities. In addition to the availability of pedestrian footpaths, it also includes other parameters such as accessibility to crossings and amenities and road safety issues, such as motorists’ behaviour towards pedestrians.

The study will contribute to the field of both economic and environment study as it will provide empirical basis to support or negate the EKC phenomenon for Asian countries.

Air pollution levels in the megacities of Asia show a stabilizing trend but still exceed World Health Organization guidelines. Studies also show poor air quality, not only in the megacities of Asia, but also in smaller cities.

Air quality management (AQM) is still a major challenge in Asia. The fast growing Asian economies and continued urbanization have increased the demand for mobility and energy in the region, resulting in high levels of air pollution in cities from transport, industry and other sources.
