The use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the transport sector has not only reduced carbon emission but also is saving over $800 million worth of petroleum import annually, Petrobangla sources say.

However, rapid expansion of CNG delivery network in the last few years has significantly contributed to instability of gas supply pressure in many areas.

While the federal government has asked Hydro-Carbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) for PC-1 of the public CNG filling stations to be set up in the city, the private sector is also keen to supply CNG for the proposed 500 CNG buses at discount rate.

Rs 500 million CNG Bus project is likely to halt, as the Ministry of Environment is unnecessarily delaying the transfer of funds to Karachi Mass Transit Cell (KMTC), an operator of the proposed 500 buses.
