National Forum on Environment and Health (NFEH) has expressed grave concern over the fast degradation of environment in the country especially Karachi in the past 12 years which inflicted huge losses to the economy and posed threat to resources.
Much-needed CNG-powered buses will start plying on 40 designated routes in the city any time during the next financial year as the ground work for the launching of the scheme has been completed in all respects, according to well-placed city government officials.
New Delhi: The state cabinet on Monday gave its nod to DTC to purchase 1,000 semi low floor buses. DTC has been asked to expedite the procurement of these buses.
Pune The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) Board has opted for a private-public partnership (PPP) to buy 650 buses, including 200 AC coaches, under the JNNURM scheme. The project is worth Rs 400 crore.
As many as 100 will be Volvo buses run on diesel and the rest will be CNG-run. The private players will decide the AC bus fares, which will be 1.25 to 2.5 times the regular fare.
The Chinese delegation headed by Jamshaid Ullah, General Manager, Rimedyne Refrigeration System Co Ltd, committed to export 30 CNG buses in the first phase for Islamabad, while CDA informed that they need 500 CNG buses for Islamabad which is environment friendly.
LUCKNOW: At least 500 buses plying in Lucknow are awaiting CNG conversion. Close to 30,000 kg of CNG is left un-used everyday. Going by the fact that a single bus runs on 60 kg of CNG, 30,000 kg is sufficient to run 500 buses everyday.
Ministry of Environment has decided to enforce Euro-II emission standards for all new petrol driven imported and locally manufactured vehicles from July this year and the same standard would be applicable for diesel driven automobiles from July 2012.
