Dam safety is central to public protection and economic security. However, the world has an aging portfolio of large dams, with growing downstream populations and rapid urbanization placing dual pressures on these important infrastructures to provide increased services and to do it more safely.

As informed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP), an Expert Committee constituted by it in June, 2019 suggested to go for fresh tenders for balance works of Irrigation Project. Thereafter, tenders were called by the State for balance works of main dam package and left side connectivities of headworks in August, 2019.

The safety of the dams is the prime responsibility of the state governments and the dam owners and the Dam Safety Bill 2019 proposes an institutional framework and provisions for prevention of dam failure related disaster through proper surveillance, inspection, operation and maintenance of dams in India.
