People have always been proficient at making trash. Future archaeologists will note that at the tail end of the 20th century, a new, noxious kind of clutter exploded across the landscape: the digital detritus that has come to be called e-waste. More than 40 years ago, Gordon Moore, co-founder of the computer-chip maker Intel, observed that computer processing power roughly doubles every two years. An unstated corollary to "Moore's law" is that at any given time, all the machines considered state-of-the-art are simultaneously on the verge of obsolescence.

The present study deals with the assessment of ambient air quality with respect to respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM or PM10 <10
m) and trace metals (Fe, Zn, Cu, Cr, Ni, Cd, Mn and Pb) concentrations in RSPM at five locations of Renukoot, an industrial area of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The present study was undertaken to know the effect of concentration of lead (Pb) and different organic materials on the maize yield, concentrations of lead on maize plants and diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid (DTPA) extractable lead (Pb) on the post harvested soils.

Teak leaves (Tectona grandis) abundantly available in India showed high sorption capacity for lead ions and were found efficient for the removal of lead ions from aqueous solutions. The extent of removal was found to be dependent on pH, temperature, concentration of metal ions and the dose of adsorbent.

Human head hair concentration of zinc from 175 subjects (92 male and 83 female) aged between 11 to 51 year in Mainpuri region has been studied by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The mean concentration of zinc have been found significantly higher in female than in male subjects.

Cr (VI) (Chromate) is a toxic, soluble environmental contaminant. Bacteria can reduce chromate to the insoluble and less toxic Cr (III), and thus chromate bioremediation is of interest.

Water samples were collected from different places in Godavari River located at Sangam point in Maharashtra and Basar point in Andhra Pradesh. The results obtained are compared with drinking water standard (BIS-10500). The results obtained envisaged that pH value of drinking water samples were slightly neutral but the maximum pH was recorded in the site III at Bastar point (Andhra Pradesh) sampling location and minimum value 7.22 was noticed in site III at Sangam point.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) released its first study in May 2006 on heavy metal contamination in the Bandi basin due to textile dyeing and printing industries in Pali city. This research was initiated in November 2005 on the request of Sri Kisan Paryavaran Sangarsh Samiti, a farmers group spearheading the fight against the surface and groundwater pollution by industries.
